That is why it should be in your top priority to protect your identity. So here are some tips to keep your identity safe from being stolen during a travel:
- Stick to travel light. It is not only about packing only necessary items. It is also about packing necessary documents which include credit cards, social security, bank cards, and everything you usually have in your wallet. Make sure to only bring the most important one that you will truly need. Don’t make assumption of what will or will not need for the trip. You need to make detailed plan of the trip so you know whether or not you need to bring extra credit cards.
- Always make copies for your important documents such as driver license, personal identification card, passport, visa, health insurance card, etc. then, you need to leave one copy with a family or friend at home. So if you need it during travel you can call them. You also need to make digital copies of important documents so you have proper backup that you can carry everywhere just in case you lose them or get them stolen. You will absolutely need them if that ever happens so you can proceed to obtain the new documents. You don’t want to be stuck in unknown place because you don’t have proper documentation to let you return to your home.
- If you need to use ATM, make sure to choose the one located in safe place, not some shady areas where you can be a target for crimes. You also need to be careful when drawing money from ATM. Block the view from the glass so there is no chance for others to sneak a peek on your PIN. It is also highly advised to not bring check book. Leave it behind because you won’t necessarily need it while travelling.
- Book a hotel that provide a safe box in the room. Thus, you can use it to keep your valuables safe. You can store your documents that contain personal information inside the safe. Thus, you won’t have to carry them around throughout the day. Make sure to book a room with a sufficient safe that can truly secure your valuables properly. Thus, you can enjoy the trip with ease.
